Black Canary lived inside the house with us since she was born. I ordered baby chicks from a website and she came as a surprise In a grab bag surprise assortment. She was so beautiful from day 1. In that group of chicks one had a deformed beak and couldnt eat properly so I knew she ( her name was Hope) would need constant care. On the day all the chicks were grown up enough to live in their coop, Hope stayed with me and I picked Black Canary to live inside to be her companion. 4 months later little Hope died, we were devastated and so was Black Canary. Black Canary was now alone with our German Shepherds.. they accepted her and she thought she was a big German Shepherd too. We took the dogs and Black Canary everywhere including work.. People loved seeing her and she loved coming with us. She spent most of her time on a big shelf underneath the kitchen table where she ate and drank and napped all day.. she was perfectly content to just hand around anywhere we were. She was so smart too! Everyone thinks chickens are dumb animals but she was as smart as my dogs.. she let me know if I needed to clean up her area , she let me know if the dogs stole her food, she acted anxious if she knew we were leaving because she wanted to be with us. She was the cuddliest little girl and I loved her as one of my dogs and theyre my kids. I bought her the cutest little pink doghouse and put it on my dresser. Thats where she slept every night. I cant believe she died so quickly, she was herself the morning of her Doctors appointment but she was making a funny breathing noise. She just passed away that evening and my heart is broken. There will never be a doubt in my mind that all of Gods animals have brains and if you treat them right they will be the loves of your lives.. no matter kind of animal.. she was not just a chicken to me !
